ARLINGTON, Texas – In a year where the Cowboys have already faced injuries to stars like Dak Prescott, Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence, the injury bug bit yet again on one of Dallas' young stars in DeMarvion Overshown during a 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Overshown's right leg was rolled up on by a Bengals offensive lineman in the fourth quarter. He stayed on the ground in serious pain, and his teammates immediately motioned for help from the training staff on the sidelines. Following the loss, head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that Overshown's injury was severe.
"It's of serious nature I'm told, that's really all I know. It didn't look good." McCarthy said.
Overshown will undergo more testing on Tuesday to determine the extent of his knee injury. Before the start of his rookie season last year, Overshown tore his ACL in his left knee, where he was forced to missed the entirety of the season. If this injury keeps him out of Dallas' last four games, the Cowboys would be losing their second leading player in both tackles and sacks.
Once Overshown was helped back into the locker room, there was a notable energy shift for the Dallas defense as his teammates and coaches felt his absence, and the thought of the severity of the injury hit them hard.
"I think the whole sideline felt that because it didn't look good…" McCarthy said. "I know it definitely hit a lot of the guys."
In the locker room after the game, Micah Parsons had tears in his eyes talking about the injury to his new partner in crime and "little bro," who he's meshed extremely well with when both are on the field at the same time.
"He don't deserve that. He don't. That's my little bro, man…" Parsons said. "He's been through so much. It's not fair to him."
Overshown took to social media after the game seemingly confirming the severity of his injury in a post on X.
"Wouldn't want this for anyone else! One of God's toughest soldiers… Keep me in your prayers…" Overshown said in his post.
