Draft Notes: Kicker Update; Sproles Text & More
The Cowboys provided some insight for the next move at kicker. Deuce Vaughn got a text from Darren Sproles and how Asim Richards is no longer an Eagles fan.
![Texts From Sproles
Because of their position, their size and of course, both went to Kansas State, it's only natural that Darren Sproles has a relationship with Deuce Vaughn. So much so, that Sproles reached out to Vaughn on Saturday, not long after he was drafted.
"Yessir, I met Darren my sophomore year at Kansas State, so I've talked to him," Vaughn said, mentioning that he got the call from Sproles. "He said he was proud of me. He said to keep the short backs alive. I told him I'd make him proud. At first when he said he was proud of me, he said that the work starts now and that everything's out in front of me. I've just got to go work hard for it."
Sproles, listed at 5-6, played 14 seasons in the NFL, starring for the Chargers, Saints and Eagles, earning three Pro Bowl selections in his career.](https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/private/t_new_photo_album/t_lazy/f_auto/cowboys/iksx832bxyytgoyzmasy.jpg)

![No Kicker
The Cowboys seemed to have a plan to draft a kicker, but when the top two kickers (Chad Ryland and Jake Moody) went off the board in the middle of the draft, it looks like they will adjust the plan.
"We'll be looking at a more veteran kicker," Jerry Jones said on Saturday. "We didn't get the opportunity we thought we'd have, and we had other priorities."
When asked if Brett Maher was a possibility to re-sign, Jerry Jones said he'd rather not get into their "strategy" but it's clear they will go another route than drafting one.](https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/private/t_new_photo_album/t_lazy/f_auto/cowboys/rtvzoaa0pmsviduzq0dy.jpg)

![30 Visits
When the Cowboys bring in players for their official 30 visits, it's usually a good sign that not only are they wanting more information, but it might be enough to secure a draft pick.
The Cowboys brought in Mazi Smith, DeMarvion Oershown, Eric Scott Jr. and Viliami Fehoko to The Star in Frisco earlier this month. All four were drafted, including two on Day 3 Saturday.
"It's a time that we can really learn what the guy is all about," Cowboys VP of player personnel Will McClay said. "It's been a helpful tool for us over the years."
And it sounds like it's just as beneficial for the players as well, especially if the Cowboys become their next home.
"I fell in love with Dallas when I came down to the [Top] 30 visit," Southern Miss CB Eric Scott said. "I've been dreaming about it ever since. For this day to actually come forward, it means so much to me."](https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/private/t_new_photo_album/t_lazy/f_auto/cowboys/g4lafowpj94rolcjeuot.jpg)

![Brotherly Love
Asim Richards grew up in Philadelphia, where his family, including his brother, has been an Eagles fan growing up.
"Not anymore," Richards joked with the media. "I grew up in Philly; grew up an Eagles fan, but I knew coming into this that [coming to Dallas] would be a possibility. I'm all into Dallas now."
And now he gets to move here, something his brother wanted him to do weeks ago. "A couple weeks ago. He wanted to move to Dallas. He has been wanting to move to Dallas," Richards said. "And so, he was like, 'Yeah I think you're going to go to Dallas.' He had a feeling and I'm like, "I don't know bro', but he was right."](https://static.clubs.nfl.com/image/private/t_new_photo_album/t_lazy/f_auto/cowboys/cao6czfhmfznlscizx7s.jpg)
