July 31 Updates
10:40 a.m.— Trevon Diggs is now the latest $100 million man for the Cowboys and, as such, don't anticipate the team pushing him unnecessarily to return to the practice field this early in training camp, currently nursing a sore/bruised toe.
As the first padded practice gets underway, Diggs will be relegated to individual drills, per head coach Mike McCarthy, as he's eased cautiously back into the mix.
The Pro Bowl cornerback has been involved in all team meetings and heavily involved in coaching up young defensive backs from the sideline last week.
There remains more than five weeks between now and the regular season debut against the Giants, and the goal is to make sure Diggs is 100% healthy for when they need him most.

July 29 Updates
10:43 a.m. – Cornerback Trevon Diggs has been out of practice since Wednesday here in Oxnard, but he should be back on the field as early as Monday or Tuesday, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
"He has a toe injury … we're not concerned about it," McCarthy said on Saturday before practice. "He'll probably be back early next week."
Diggs made some headlines last week when he signed a five-year contract extension that will pay him around $100 million.
In his place, third-year cornerback Nahshon Wright has taken most of the reps, opposite of Stephon Gilmore.

July 28 Updates
3:51 p.m. - This is the fourth year Isaac Alarcon has been with the Cowboys, but the first as a defensive lineman.
While the adjustment from offense to defense could be tough for anyone, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn seems to like the progress he's seeing from Alarcon.
"If we can train him to be an inside guy with this kind of size and strength, I think he can make his mark inside," Quinn said. "He's probably more athletic than the typical defensive tackle because of his unique ability. He's a 315-pounder but you wouldn't know it looking at him. You'd think he was 280 pounds. He's got size and strength combination that will take some time to develop the instincts … but a player like that is worth the time and investment. I'm encouraged about where he is. I know the development is not the same for every player. But based off his traits, I think he'll get there faster than most."
Alarcon spent three years in the NFL's International Pathway Program, which gave teams a roster exemption for the practice squad. While he's no longer eligible for that, Alarcon could provide depth in the scout teams, especially with his experience on both sides of the ball.

July 27 Updates
12:38 p.m. – Jalen Tolbert has turned some heads so far in the first week of training camp. Many factors might be attributed to this, whether it's connection with veteran Brandin Cooks, or his extra work with Dak Prescott this offseason.
But according to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, it might be the notes Tolbert takes in the meeting, creating a notebook that the OC described as "dynamic" when he met with the media Friday.
"Ask him to see his notebook … it's one of the coolest things I've seen," Schottenheimer said about Tolbert. "I was blown away. I told him, 'you need to save that and I'm going to use that in front of the (entire) offense. It's dynamic. It's not just about talent. These players don't get enough credit for playing full speed, but also the (mental) side, too. But he's figuring it out and that's a credit to him."
Tolbert is vying to be the fourth receiver on the depth chart behind CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup and Cooks.

8:30 p.m.. — KaVontae Turpin reported to training camp earlier this week but was noticeably absent once the first practice got underway on Wednesday, and was again out of practice on Thursday, but for good reason.
The dynamic returner was excused by the team due to the birth of his child, and he is expected to return to the team on Friday.
Turpin joined the Cowboys one year ago with the hope of becoming the team's definitive kick and punt returner, and he not only went on to earn the role in the preseason, but he'd end the year with his first-ever Pro Bowl nod — as a rookie who was only months removed from winning USFL MVP honors.
As he begins Year 2 with the club, he does so now fully recharged (having had no break whatsoever from football last year) and now with a new addition to his growing family.
------------------------------------
11:30 a.m. – Rookie TE Luke Schoonmaker was a notable addition to the injury list on Tuesday when the team settled in in Oxnard, Calif. for training camp, as he continues to deal with a plantar fasciitis issue that lingered from his college days at Michigan.
In Thursday's press conference, head coach Mike McCarthy provided some clarity on his status and said that he expects Schoonmaker to return during training camp.
"I'm definitely hopeful of that," McCarthy said. "He's had some good workouts as of late. He's definitely making progress but I don't have a timeline."

July 26 Updates
6:12 p.m. – Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson had to leave practice on Wednesday, leaving in a cart to the locker room.
While he was walking around in a boot, which often can be used for precautionary measures, Wilson is expected to go through medical test throughout the day and into Thursday. Multiple reports are suggesting Wilson has a calf strain that could keep him out the majority, if not all of the preseason.
However, head coach Mike McCarthy is expected to provide a full status report on Wilson, who was one of the team's leading tacklers last season.
------------------------------------
11:30 a.m. – When injury lists were announced on Tuesday afternoon, a noticeable omission was OT Terence Steele who suffered a torn ACL and MCL in the week 14 win over Houston last season.
In Wednesday's press conference, head coach Mike McCarthy praised Steele for his diligence in his recovery to be ready for training camp just seven months after his injury.
"If you know Terence and see him every day, nothing surprises you," McCarthy said. "Super consistent, off the charts professionally. He's been in there since the surgery at the same time every day. I'm not surprised at all that he's crossed the thresholds that he needs to cross in a timely fashion like he did because of his work ethic. He's done a great job getting himself ready."
------------------------------------
11:15 a.m.. — It's taking no time at all for rookie fourth-round pick DeMarvion Overshown to get into the good graces of Mike McCarthy and the TV coaching staff.
"There's a young man that gets it," said McCarthy, minutes ahead of the team's first practice of camp. "He's made an impression. ... He's one of the first guys [the coaching staff] talks about. ... I look for him to make an impact."
McCarthy's sentiment is echoed by defensive coordinator, who also lauded just how focused, determined and talented the born-and-bred Texan has been since the moment he stepped foot in the building in Frisco.
And as his first-ever NFL training camp gets underway, having exited the flight and bus in Oxnard with a glaring smile, it sounds as if the former Longhorn ready to try and make waves as early as Year 1.

July 25 Updates
2:09 p.m. – The focus shouldn't be on the two players who were placed on injiured lists on Tuesday, but rather the two that were not.
Terence Steele and Tony Pollard, two players rehabbing injuries for most of the offseason, were not placed on PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) on Tuesday. That means they not only will be cleared to practice, but it also means PUP to start regular season (missing four games) is no longer an option.
Steele suffered a torn ACL in December against the Colts but the Cowboys, including Stephen Jones, have raved on him being ahead of schedule.
Pollard sustained a high-ankle sprain and broken leg against the 49ers in the playoffs but appears to be ready to go start camp as the lead running back for the first time in his career.

July 20 Updates
4:00 p.m. — NFL owners gathered on Thursday in Minneapolis for a special owners meeting to vote on the sale of the Washington Commanders from longtime owner Dan Snyder to businessman Josh Harris. Upon arriving in Minneapolis, TV owner Jerry Jones said he is looking forward to a big day for the league.
"I think it's going to be a great day for the NFL," Jones told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The sale of the team was unanimously approved by all 32 NFL owners which means Josh Harris will begin his post as the owner of the Washington Commanders starting on Friday. Dan Snyder's run as owner ends after 24 years.

July 19 Updates
10:45 a.m. — Six-time All-Pro guard Zack Martin was announced as the newest member of the Madden 99 Club on Wednesday morning, as he becomes the first guard to earn the status league-wide since Larry Allen in 2003, also with the Cowboys.
Along with his 99 overall rating on Madden 24, Martin also has ratings of 97 for strength, 99 for awareness, 98 for run block rating, 95 for pass block rating and 96 for toughness. He earns the 99 overall status going into his tenth season with the TV.
In 2022, Martin gave up just three sacks on a 96-percent pass block win rate, the eighth-best mark in the league, while also sporting a 73.8-percent run block win rate.

July 13 Updates
3:13 p.m. — New York Giants franchise-tagged running back Saquon Barkley's status for week one against the TV will be in "serious question" if a long-term deal is not reached by Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, according to a report on Wednesday by ESPN's Dianna Russini.
Barkley has been the starting running back for the Giants since being drafted with the No. 2 overall pick by the franchise in 2018, but his future could be in jeopardy for the Cowboys' NFC East rival. If Barkley decides to hold out, Matt Breida and Eric Gray would be next up in the backfield for the Giants.
In eight career games against the Cowboys, Barkley has rushed for 464 yards (the lowest of any NFC East opponent) and three touchdowns along with accounting for 281 receiving yards.

June 8 Updates
3:13 p.m. - The Cowboys are done with offseason practices after Thursday's light workout at Ford Center. In fact, they didn't even wear jerseys, but sported customized “Allen Str8ng” T-shirts to pay tribute to the families affected by the May 6 shooting in nearby Allen, Texas.
But the conclusion of offseason practice also puts the Cowboys in a good spot with training camp coming up on July 24.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said the team made it through the summer practices without serious injuries.
"I have no major injury concerns," McCarthy said on Thursday. "The state of our practice structure is part of that. There's nobody we're worried about right now."
And that includes wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who banged his knee in Wednesday's practice and was held out Thursday. There are some other players still rehabbing injuries but for the most part, the Cowboys should have the majority of their roster ready to go when camp starts.
