Would being more up tempo on offense earlier in the game (and frankly more often) get this team on track? It works well when they are behind, but could it be used to get a lead and get the opposing defense back on their heels? – Jason Clarke/West Boylston, MA
Mickey: That would be a great idea if Dak Prescott was the quarterback, and often thought they should do that from the beginning. They actually started off one of the last games Dak played that way, and they did move the ball. But not sure this offense is working efficiently enough with Cooper Rush at quarterback to try to pull that off. The last thing you want is to go hurry up and then hurry up off the field if it doesn't work. Not sure they have enough confidence in what's going on up front to artificially try something like this. But then, that's me.
Tommy: There's a scenario where that change could help but changing your offensive identity and approach to start games this late into the season might come back to bite you. I think that Dallas' lack of a run game really hinders this thought process from becoming successful because they become one dimensional and easier to defend at times, which limits how fast you can really go if you throw incomplete passes. You've also got a backup quarterback playing for you, and while Cooper Rush is plenty experienced and familiar with this offense, his accuracy over his last two starts makes me wonder if he could consistently operate that type of tempo effectively. It's a good concept and idea, I just don't think that's the solution that this offense is looking for.
