Now that they've cut the roster to 53 players, what do you think are the Cowboys' biggest strengths this upcoming season, and where do they still need to find some help? – Jeff Joyce/Shawnee, KS
Nick Harris: I'm looking at the group of linebackers as a strength going into this season, and who would have thought that coming out of last season? The addition of Eric Kendricks through free agency, Marist Liufau through the draft, DeMarvion Overshown by way of injury return and the emergence of Buddy Johnson on special teams gives this defense a solid foundation in the second level. Once DaRon Bland makes his way back from his foot surgery, the secondary will be right there with them as a solid group as well. As for weaknesses, I still see a hole at running back and at the depth of the offensive tackle position. If one of the running backs can provide some juice that I just can't foresee at this moment, then I could be wrong here, but I just don't see that as of now. As for depth options behind Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele, those realities would require a player with little-to-no NFL experience stepping in and filling in. A little bit of comfort could be useful there if that were to happen at tackle at some point in the season.
Mickey Spagnola: As for strengths, got to like the wide receiver position with CeeDee Lamb signed to an extension, like the versatility of the tight end position, the upgrades made at linebacker and strong at safety. Experienced help is needed at swing tackle with Chuma Edoga on injured reserve likely until around Thanksgiving, the fourth corner now that DaRon Bland is on IR for at least four games with previous fourth corner Caelen Carson now likely starting and defensive end, little experience there if Micah Parsons is used some at linebacker as planned. Believe me, their eyes are wide open.
